Since their conception in 2003, Alter Bridge have become a behemoth in the world of Rock. Comprising ¾ of the band Creed, they recruited talented vocalist Myles Kennedy, and well the rest is history as they have released three fantastic albums whilst touring the world over many times.
Addicted to Pain is the first single of their hotly anticipated album Fortress. In all honesty I’m surprised this album has come out fairly quickly due to the substantial amount of other projects some of the band are in: Myles has been recruited by a little known guitarist called Slash, while Tremonti and co have re-established Creed and have been touring Tremonti’s solo project.
So on to the song…It rocks. There are surprisingly heavy guitars with blistering riffs and solos with exquisite vocals soaring over the top of the track, underpinned by solid rhythm work. I know this has also described the majority of the bands back catalogue, but this is the point! Addicted to Pain is an Alter Bridge song through and through.
Now some of you may think I’m implying that I’m saying the track is painting by numbers, or not original enough, but on the contrary I’m saying this track embodies everything that has led to Alter Bridge becoming one of mine (and I’m sure many other people’s) favourite bands.
I can’t wait to hear more from this album which comes out in September 30th from Roadrunner Records, and if you are not familiar with their back catalogue, I implore you to stop what you are doing and buy/listen to all of it now. They also embark on a UK tour in mid October.
I rate Addicted to Pain
